International Section

Welcome to the homepage of the APA Division 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology) International Section (ICP). We are a group of professionals and students in the United States and around the globe who are interested in promoting counseling psychology practice, training, and research in international contexts.  We host exciting programs at the APA annual conventions every year and rely on online conference methods (e.g., Skype) to engage our members in various professional/social projects between conventions.  The website contents are updated periodically to keep our members informed of our Section’s activities.  If interested, please contact our officers for more information about our Section.

The APA Division 17 International Section (ICP) is pleased to share the ICP International Student Needs Assessment Report and its accompanying resource guide. This project examines the experiences of international graduate students in Clinical and Counseling Psychology, together with the perspectives of training directors and department leaders.

The findings highlight significant concerns related to visa and immigration policies, career planning, gaps between students’ needs and available institutional support, and inequities associated with STEM designation and visa-related policies. The report calls for stronger institutional resources, timely policy and legal information, cross-program collaboration, coordinated leadership, and continued professional advocacy.

These materials are intended for international graduate students, faculty advisors, clinical supervisors, training directors, department leaders, and others working to create more equitable and supportive training environments.
