Taking Action Against Racism

During Janet Helm’s presidential year (2008-2009), she appointed the Taking Action Against Racism special task groups to identify pragmatic strategies for recognizing racism in its various manifestations and resisting racism. Two of those special task groups, Taking Action Against Racism in the Media (TAARM) and Taking Action Against Racism in Higher Education (TAARHE) joined forces and developed a website in response to Dr. Helm’s charge.

The goals of these two projects were to:

  • Create a website to provide psychologists, counselors, educators, community leaders, and diversity trainers with the resources, tools, and information to combat racism, hate crimes, and bias incidents
  • Build interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts among professionals committed to social justice
  • Promote the role of social advocacy among psychologists, educators, and other helping professionals
