SAS Awards
Student Affiliates of Seventeen (SAS) announces a Call for Nominations for various SAS specific awards. Graduate students may apply to multiple awards – please fill out a separate form for each award you are applying for.

- Graduate student in counseling psychology
- Must be a student affiliate of Division 17
**If a student wins an award, they will be recognized at the SCP Business Meeting during the APA convention. As such, winners are HIGHLY encouraged to attend this meeting to be officially recognized for receiving the award
Applicants should submit this form, with the following additional application materials, by 5:00 PM EST on April 26, 2019.

- Abbreviated CV (not to exceed 2 pages, maximum)
- Statement of Purpose (250-300 words)

2018 AWARDS & RECIPIENTS
Bridging the Gap Award
Student Affiliates of Seventeen (SAS) announces a Call for Nominations for the SAS Bridging the Gap Award. The monetary prize associated with this award is $500.00. This award will be granted to a doctoral or masters student in a counseling psychology or counseling program who demonstrates exemplary research or practice in the area of integrating psychological science with the practice of counseling psychology. Nominees’ commitment to the integration of science and practice should be demonstrated in a 250-300 word written statement that explicitly details the application of their research to a practice setting (i.e. a specific research project that nominees have recently completed or are currently conducting). Submissions that demonstrate concrete applications of research are preferred over submissions that are more conceptual in nature. The award will be presented to the recipient at an awards ceremony to be held at the 2019 APA Convention in Chicago, August 8-11, 2019.

2018 Recipient: Caitlin Martin-Wagar, M.A., University of Akron
This award was granted to Caitlin Martin-Wagar for exemplifying the SAS Pillar of Scholarship, Engagement, and Collaboration; specifically, the integration of psychological science and practice as future counseling psychologists.
Prevention and Promotion Award
Student Affiliates of Seventeen (SAS) announces a Call for Nominations for the SAS Prevention and Health Promotion Award. The monetary prize associated with this award is $500.00. This award will be granted to a Doctoral or Master’s student in counseling psychology who exemplifies the SAS Pillar of Prevention and Promotion; specifically students who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to the pursuit of activities, which prevent negative mental health outcomes and/or promote emotional/mental well-being and self-care. The 250-300 word statement should describe the applicant’s commitment to prevention and promotion through practice, research, and/or professional service in the field. Additionally, nominees should address how one’s experiences in these areas contribute to the future of Counseling Psychology. The award will be presented to the recipient at an awards ceremony to be held at the 2019 APA Convention in Chicago,IL, August 8-11, 2019. Self-nominations are encouraged! 2018 Recipient: Zachary Dschaak, M.A., University of Kentucky
This award was granted to Zachary Dschaak for exemplifying the SAS Pillar of Prevention and Promotion; specifically, for showing an exemplary commitment to the pursuit of activities, which prevent negative mental health outcomes and/or promote emotional/mental well-being and self-care.
Social Justice and Advocacy Award
Student Affiliates of Seventeen (SAS) announces a Call for Nominations for the SAS Social Justice Award. The monetary prize associated with this award is $500.00. This award will be granted to a Doctoral or Master’s student in counseling psychology who exemplifies the SAS Pillar of Social Justice and Advocacy; specifically, an exemplary commitment to helping disenfranchised and disempowered groups through social justice advocacy. The nominee’s commitment to social justice must be demonstrated through practice, research, and/or professional service in the field. The 250-300 word statement should describe the applicant’s exemplary commitment to areas of social justice. Please provide specific examples of social justice including, but not limited to, academic projects, research, and field experiences. Also, address how one’s social justice experiences contribute to the future of Counseling Psychology. The award will be presented to the recipient at an awards ceremony to be held at the 2019 APA Convention in Chicago,IL, August 8-11, 2019.

2018 Recipient: Della V. Mosley, University of Kentucky
This award was granted to Della Mosley for the SAS Pillar of Social Justice and Advocacy; specifically, an exemplary commitment to helping disenfranchised and disempowered groups though social justice advocacy. The nominee’s commitment to social justice must be demonstrated through practice, research, and/or professional service in the field.
Student Travel Award
Student Affiliates of Seventeen (SAS) announces a Call for Nominations for the SAS Student Travel Award in the amount of $500 for Counseling Psychology graduate students to attend and either volunteer or present at the 2019 APA Annual Convention in Chicago (Aug 8-11, 2019). Nominee’s should utilize the 250-300 word written statement to explicitly detail why they wish to attend and/or present at the conference and how they plan to use the knowledge gained at the conference. The award will be presented to the recipient at an awards ceremony to be held at the 2019 APA Convention in Chicago, August 8-11, 2019.
