2022 SCP Election Statement for President Elect: Helen A. Neville SCP Ballot Candidate Statement Prepare now for the solutions of tomorrow. ~ Congolese Proverb It is an honor to be nominated to run for the Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP) presidency. My involvement in SCP has ebbed and flowed over the past 30 or so years. SCP's more recent commitment to social justice, liberation, and becoming an anti-Black racism organization has affirmed my decision to enter the field and my career path. I am accepting the invitation to run for this position to give back to a field aligned with my values and play a small part in ensuring the SCP thrives in our ever-changing and diverse world. I began with the Congolese Proverb to accentuate what I see as a critical next step in our growth as a profession. SCP has a history of working to address society's most pressing issues. If elected, I would prioritize radical envisioning or finding ways our field can creatively address unmet mental health needs, changing workforce, climate change, persistent racial and other forms of oppression, etc. It is also critical to reclaim our field's many contributions to research and practice. My professional experiences have prepared me to work collaboratively with others to envision and prepare for our field's possible futures. This includes serving as Division 45 President, SCP council representative for 6 years, chair of APA's Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs, ABPsi Executive Board member, associate editor of two journals, and Provost Fellow at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Let's prepare together for the solutions of tomorrow. |
