Welcome!

We are the Section for Advocacy of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity (SASOGD), and we gladly welcome you here!

SASOGD is a section of the APA Division 17. We are committed to working toward LGBTQ+ equality. Please contact us if you would like to become involved. Consider running for a leadership position. Contact our Section Chair Meredith Maroney, Ph.D. today!

Our Mission Statement

The section’s mission is to expand understanding of sexuality and gender diversity among Counseling and Psychological professionals, students, and all those they impact in their roles as clinicians, researchers, teachers, consultants, and authors.

Our Goals

To encourage effective and ethically sound counseling and psychological research, training, and practice related to the spectrum of sexuality and gender identities including but not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and nonbinary populations.

To create opportunities for professional networking and career development for students, professionals, and their allies who identify as sexual and gender minorities.

To develop working relationships between corporate America and mental health service providers to facilitate more cohesive and productive environments in the workplace and in the communities where people work and live.
