Michael Scheel: 2016-2019

Michael J. Scheel, PhD, ABPP, is a professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and the Director of Training of the UNL graduate program in counseling psychology. He is the associate editor of The Counseling Psychologist and an APA Fellow of Division 17. His leadership experiences include serving as chair of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs and the SCP Section for the Promotion of Psychotherapy Science. He was the 2014 recipient of the Shane Lopez Distinguished Contributions to Positive Psychology Award. His primary research interests are psychotherapy processes and strength oriented psychotherapy methods; He teaches courses on how to lead happier and healthier lives to undergraduates at UNL and he teaches his graduate students to conduct therapy from a strength perspective. He is the co-author of the upcoming book, Goal Focused Positive Psychotherapy: A Comprehensive Strength Oriented Therapy. He also is the director of the high school dropout prevention program, Building Bridges, that has served over 400 students in the Lincoln, Nebraska Public Schools.
