Counseling Psychology Division 17 Sections

Counseling Psychology Division 17 strives to meet the particular interests and needs of its members. This is accomplished through the formation of sections which are formal organizations designed to promote issues in interest areas, and special interest groups which are informal groups representing a variety of interest areas.

Advancement of Women
The Section for the Advancement of Women (SAW) welcomes academic, practitioner, consulting, and other counseling psychologists, both professionals and students, who are interested in working together toward advancing women in the field.
Counseling Health Psychology
The Counseling Health Psychology Section is dedicated to the science and practice of counseling psychology in health related contexts either through research with medical, rehabilitation, or related populations, direct service to individuals across their lifespan, teaching and training of graduate students or the education of other health care professionals, or involvement with health policy.
Ethnic & Racial Diversity
The Section on Ethnic and Racial Diversity (SERD) is dedicated to actively encouraging, promoting, and facilitating participation by Division members, student affiliates, and other professionals in the field of counseling psychology, particularly as the involvement pertains to issues of ethnic and racial diversity.
Independent Practice
The Section on Independent Practice serves as a home base for counseling psychologists in independent practice, both full-time and part-time.
International
The International Section is dedicated to encouraging, promoting, and facilitating a scientist-professional model of counseling psychology in international contexts in the U.S.A. and around the globe.
Lesbian, Gay, & Bisexual Awareness
The mission of the SLGBA is to expand understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual populations among counseling and psychological professionals, students, and all those they impact in their roles as scientists, clinicians, teachers, consultants, and authors.
Prevention
The Prevention Section promotes the theory, research, teaching, and practice of prevention, advocacy, social justice, and public interest initiatives across the lifespan.
Positive Psychology
The Positive Psychology Section encourages, promotes, and facilitates contributions to research, teaching, practice, and public interest in positive psychology by Division members.
Promotion of Psychotherapy Science
This Section encourages, facilitates, and promotes counseling and psychotherapy process and outcome research as well as the application of such research to the practice of counseling and psychotherapy; it also informs the profession and the public regarding the research and its applications.
Student Affiliates of Seventeen
The Student Affiliates of Seventeen is a national graduate student organization that is associated with APA Division 17 - The Society of Counseling Psychology. It is designated to address issues specifically related to counseling psychology students.
Supervision & Training
The Supervision and Training Section (STS) is dedicated to those interested or engaged in training or supervising mental health service providers, including students, professional therapists-counselors, psychologists, and clinical supervisors.
University & College Counseling Centers
The purpose of this section is to encourage, assist, and advance contributions by Section members as they relate to college and university counseling services.
Vocational Psychology
The purpose of the Society for Vocational Psychology is to encourage, promote, and facilitate contributions to research, teaching, practice, and public interest in vocational psychology and career interventions.
