Iowa State University: Assistant Professor

Assistant Professor in Psychology and Asian American Studies

The Department of Psychology and the Asian American Studies Program at Iowa State University invite applications for the position of Assistant Professor.  Although this is a multidisciplinary search, we hope that the position will be filled by a psychologist, in which case the appointment would be in both the Asian American Studies Program and in the Department of Psychology. The successful candidate for a joint hire in Psychology will have Ph.D. in psychology and a research specialty in Asian American issues within a global or transpacific framework.

A research-friendly teaching load involving graduate and undergraduate instruction creates a favorable situation for a productive career in our supportive and growing psychology department. Additional research and grant opportunities are available through affiliation with a variety of interdisciplinary institutes and centers (e.g., the Women Study Program; Institute for Social and Behavioral Research; the Partnerships in Prevention Science Institute). The department is also conducting searches in cognitive and social psychology and is participating in searches for faculty in Human Computer Interaction and in the African American Studies Program (see Ads in Department of Psychology website).

Successful candidates are expected to have a record of excellence in research and teaching and will be expected to maintain a highly productive program of research with the potential of securing extramural funding. The salary is competitive and generous start-up funds are available. Newly acquired laboratory space has greatly expanded the department’s research infrastructure.  Ames, Iowa has excellent public schools and is consistently rated as one of the best small cities to live and work.

Review of applications will begin on October 31, 2007. Applicants should send 1) a letter of application including statements of teaching philosophy and research interests, 2) a curriculum vitae, and 3) samples of recent publications or creative work.  Candidates must also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to ISU.  All application materials should be sent to: Cindy Bartleson, Attention Asian American Search Committee, College of Arts and Sciences, 202 Catt Hall, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011-3180. Questions about application completeness should be directed to Cindy Bartleson (cmbartl@iastate.edu). Questions about the position or the search process should be directed to Dr. Zora Zimmerman (zdzimme@iastate.edu). Questions about the Asian American Studies program should be directed to Dr. Eugenio Matibag (ematibag@iastate.edu). Questions about the Department of Psychology should be directed to Dr. Douglas Bonett (dgbonett@iastate.edu).

Iowa State University is an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate on the basis of gender, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.  We strongly encourage women and members of under-represented groups to apply.
