Dear SERD student members,

It is with great pleasure that we serve you this year as the new SERD student representatives! We look forward to continuing the great leadership of our previous representatives, Sara Cho Kim and Rachel Navarro, and are very excited to be your voice within SERD. But first, let us introduce ourselves!

Kenneth is a third year doctoral student from Penn State and is planning on applying for internship this year. He is from Taiwan and his research interests center on perfectionism and the Asian/Chinese population. He is married with two kids and enjoys editing home videos, playing softball, and traveling in his spare time. Supavan is a fourth year doctoral student from the University of Missouri-Kansas City where she is involved in testing and counseling advanced practicums and is working on her dissertation. Her research interests include refugee/immigrant issues, international students, social justice advocacy, and spirituality. In her spare time, Supavan travels and sings with a local choir.

To continue with the work of the previous representatives, we are still looking for symbols of unity for the SERD logo contest. Specifically, we want a logo that will reflect the mission and goals of SERD in color and design. We know that we have many creative SERD members and invite you to put your creativity to work! If chosen, you will have a direct impact on SERD for years to come! Deadline for submission: October 15th

SERD - SAG Connection

The Student Affiliate Group (SAG) is a national graduate student organization associated with the Society of Counseling Psychology, Division 17 of the American Psychological Association. The primary goal of SAG is to meet the ever-changing needs of students in counseling psychology by keeping them informed of professional issues and by enabling them to develop their identity within the field of counseling psychology.

SAG is currently being coordinated by graduate students at Marquette University, which will continue to serve as the host institution of SAG until August 2007. One of the chief goals as host institution is to facilitate communication and interaction among students.

Becoming a member of SAG has many benefits, both personal and professional. For more information, visit http://www.marquette.edu/17sag, or send an email to sag@marquette.edu.

This network, designed after the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students’ Advocacy Coordinating Team, consists of a Network Coordinator who is a member of the SAG Executive Committee, six Regional Coordinators, and a Program Representative from each graduate program in counseling psychology. This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved in Division 17 of the American Psychological Association, and gain valuable leadership experience!
