Programming Committee
The purpose of the SERD Programming Committee is to coordinate
SERD-sponsored activities and programming at APA-related related to ethnic and
racial diversity. The committee focuses on professional development
for:
(1) academic faculty,
(2) clinical professionals, and
(3) counseling psychology students.
The committee includes:
Rachel L. Navarro, Assistant Professor, Teacher's College -
Columbia University
Bryan Kim, an Associate Professor at University of California,
Santa Barbara
Earlise C. Ward, a Licensed Psychologist and Postdoctoral Fellow
at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Call for
Student Proposal Reviewers
Please contact the SERD Programming Committee at serd6@mail.com
to become a reviewer for the student proposals by 24 March 2005.
Both SERD Members and Student Affiliates are invited to participate
as reviewers. Each member reviews approximately 5 to 6 proposals and
will be provided a standard evaluation form.
Thur, 3/24: Confirm commitments from
reviewers
Mon, 3/28: Submission Deadline for Student Proposals; Process proposals (e.g., remove names)
Mon, 4/4: Distribute proposals to reviewers
Mon, 4/18: Deadline for reviews to be returned to the Program
Committee

Call for
Student Proposals
for 2006 APA Conference in New
Orleans, LA
The Section for Ethnic
and Racial Diversity of Division 17 announces a call for papers for the SERD
student poster presentation at the 2006 APA Annual Convention in
New Orleans, LA
The poster
presentation will be held during a Division 17 Social Hour in
conjunction with the Division 17 sections’ student poster
session. Students are welcome to submit proposals that
relate to SERD’s focus on advancing professional knowledge
and awareness regarding ethnic and racial diversity issues.
Proposals for poster
presentations will be considered for inclusion in the
program if they are received by 20 March 2006.

Submit a proposal cover sheet that includes
the title of the presentation and author information,
including names, highest educational degree, university
affiliation and department, complete mailing address,
telephone number, fax number, email address, and membership
status (e.g., APAGS, SERD student member). -

Submit a 1000-word proposal of the research
project; submissions that exceed the word count will not be
considered. The proposal should include a
statement of the problem, literature review, research
question(s)/purpose of the study, participants, procedure,
instruments, results,
and discussion/implications. Please do not identify names and affiliations
of the author(s) in the summary to ensure an anonymous
review. Please note that the first author must be a current
student or a recent graduate (1 year maximum).

Please indicate accommodations needed for
physical disabilities that would facilitate your
participation.

Participants must adhere to APA’s
principles of ethics with regard to avoiding sexism, racism,
and so forth in presentations and proposals.
Evaluation of the
proposal
· Proposals
will be evaluated by a SERD proposal review committee,
comprised of SERD members and student
affiliates.
·
Proposal evaluations will be based on clarity
of conceptualization, organization, comprehensiveness, significance
of the study, and relevance to SERD's mission.
