Meeting was started by Outgoing Chair Gargi R. Sodowsky. Introductions
of members took place. The SERD 2000-2001 Annual Report was distributed.
A brief report was given by Gargi Sodowsky of the Executive Committees
activities. Activities included meeting at the Multicultural Summit and
the Counseling Psychology National Conference.
It was reported that changes have occurred in the More Pie Initiative.
The treasury has increased from $200 to approximately $900. These monies
will be used for student awards in the form of travel funds and scholarships.
The listserv is doing well.
Gargi officially turned over the chair position to Edward Delgado-Romero.
Edward talked about the future directions of SERD. He mentioned the following
agenda items:
Continue tradition of personal attention, warmth, etc.
Continue to support mission of research and practice
Revamp the current SERD website; the Uni. Of Flordia has agreed to be
the new host for the website
Intensify recruiting efforts
New chair-elect and Newsletter editor will be nominated
Bylaws need to be updated (i.e. separate membership chair)
SERD should play a role in the 3RD Multicultural Summit; Edward will be
appointed to a committee of section chairs involved in the planning of
the Summit
Get the history of SERD and put it on the website
Edward opened up the discussion for comments and reactions. Rosie Bingham
said that Division 17 has a server which can be an option for SERD. Ruperto
Perez talked about the Houston Conference. Collaborations of Division
17 and 45 were mentioned. The possibility of an E-journal for Division
45 was discussed. New student representatives were nominated. Ezemenari
Obasi of Ohio State and Justin Perry of Boston College were nominated.
They both accepted the nominations.
Lisa Flores discussed the annual SERD luncheon on Sunday. Lisa also discussed
the Town Hall Meeting. Discussions for the meeting will include practice,
teaching, and recruiting issues.
Mark Pope indicated that he would like to increase the budget. He mentioned
ways that SERD might consider raising money, including being specific
about how the money will be allocated and used. It was mentioned that
Alberta Gloria has a copy of the membership directory, and that she should
be contacted so that Executive Committee members can have a copy of it.
It was mentioned that a separate membership chair should be considered.
Funding priorities were discussed. It was decided that funding the student
representatives to attend the Convention and recognizing the student poster
winners were top fundraising priorities. The possibility of a mentoring
program for students and SERD members was also discussed.
Barbara Palombi volunteered to do a newsletter article on innovative ideas
in practice. The need to recognize accomplishments in addition to publications
was affirmed.
Rosie Bingham stated that she estimated that the sections would have one
hour of suite time and there would be changes in the programming for next
year. She talked about the clustering system and the use of the suite.
Rosie also recommended that we talk with Division 17 about moving our
website to their server. Edward Delgado-Romero indicated that he would
follow up on that.
Rosie also talked about issues regarding the APA council and people of
color.
Gargi Sodowsky will conduct elections this year for chair elect and newsletter.
