Council Representative Nominee:

Louise Douce

It has been my pleasure and honor to serve the Society as a member of the Council of Representatives these past three years. I have worked as a collaborator and mediator on a number of issues including Model Licensure, Psychopharmacology Curriculum and our Resolution Against Torture. I enjoy this work as an opportunity to put our Counseling psychology values and perspectives in action.

The time has never been better for the values, prospective and collaborative skills that characterize Counseling Psychology to influence the larger organization of APA.  We have been successful in our appointments to Boards and Committees. We have worked collaboratively to bring multicultural competency to the center of our thinking about the science and practice of psychology. We are promoting the science of Counseling Psychology on multiple fronts. Yet there is much more to do.

We have been very well represented on Council by our former representatives and by the excellent leadership of our members on the Board of Directors. We have formed strong collaborations and helped resolve several controversial issues. I welcome the opportunity to continue on  this team.

I have served the Society in a number of roles over my career. I have been a member of SAW, SERD, GLB; supervision and the new interest group on globalization. I have served on the Awards, chaired Fellows and served the Board as the Vice President for Education and as President. Currently I am on the APA Board of Educational Affairs and the Counseling Psychology representative on the Council of Specialties.

Finally, I received my Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1977 and joined the staff of the Counseling and Consultation Service at The Ohio State University. I am currently the Director and adjunct faculty in the Counseling Psychology program. My career has been an integration of practice, training, teaching, research, advocacy and administration.

I  believe I could continue to be a positive force on Council. I look forward to continued service to our Society and our profession.
